pile into the Magical Pumpkin RAV'ioli, loaded for bear,
boxful of music, tanks of fresh air for exploring the lunar landscape,
canteens full of H2O, and a few snacks;
the lunar rover revs up and takes off over the crater ridges northward,
to outpost, Franklintown, let's watch...

Milling Around
Back road to freeway
beeline to Lakes Region foot
past Concords State Dome;
exit at blueway
to northern stretch of Threeway
and Franklintowns Main;
Center holding on,
Winnipesaukee River
twists 'round Odell Park,
shallow rapids flow to calm
millpond currents at millyards;
1800's mills
at Merrimack's confluence,
paused before milldam;
Pemigewasset
shoreline unmolested thru
milltowns Franklin Falls
District, powered by water,
antique generator hums;
wander past storefronts
open and closed for business
Regent marquee dark.

dead end at sewage treatment,
green space along bank;
primo overlook
down steep rocky grade to shore
view 2 into 1,
left, Pemigewass',
right, Winnipesauk', flowing
from White Mountains Lakes
carving crooked valley path
all the way to, Atlantic!
Rumor, Charles River
was prehistoric course 'til
earthquake dam'd it up;
notice straight, north - south
direction, Franklintown to
about, Nashu'ay -
Lowtown, where takes hard east turn,
twists between tall hills to sea;
Merrimack River
valley rapids, calm, farmlands,
and revolutions.

history reborn,

park just off route 3A-South at
rail trail intersect,
walk down to beach - ramp,
lazy, winding currents, sand,
brown tannen water;
campfire circles,
grassy picnic area,
and abandoned car...?
Parked hard against forest edge,
probably out kayaking;
greenspace across from
N. H. House of Correction
and Nursing College...
incarceration
