Minnie
an old doll with clean skin
white from the glazier's hand
sitting straight in a starch collar pose
straw hat brim
swirled snake eyes beneath
powdered cheek chalk talk

How ya doin' Minnie
not bad for an old doll
gettin' much?
Not much. Rough trade. Outta touch.
See the show?
Yeah, same stuff.
Lotsa skin.
Grab the action.
Mary!
They do everything.
It's not the same.
It's a shame.
Not like Scollay.
Not like the Howard.
Not like the old crowd.

Mary!
Remember Bubbles?
Remember Crystal?
She took out her pistol!
Mary!
In Bickford's.
Dumped a table all over a Marine.
Mary! I could scream.
Just like a duchess!
Lillian Law
went to Deer Island -- six months!
But there is justice.
A sucker born every minute.
And she has nothing but time.

While across the street in the Dolls' Hospital,
Mrs. Glass observes astutely,
operates minutely,
restores smashed faces
of any races,
replaces eyes,
daubs and dyes,
tags and labels,
puts on wigs,
puts on wisdom;
does what is needed wherever heeded.
But if you look close,
if you see sharp,
you can't help notice
where the paint has chipped."
"Oh, thank you, CAT."

Just because it's spring
Umbrellas shield us against
Sudden nor-easters
Trees bend with the wind

Branches nature's weapons fear
Enter the virus
Cause it could be worse
Apocalyptic zombies
Ugly dead people
Social distancing in the
Empty streets of Somerville
Internet a web
Think it's not illegal yet
Stand for what matters
Spring into action
Pansies with smiling faces
Roses a prick in their thorn
Irises eyes to see
Nature and the corona
going nowhere fast
