As I sit on a bench along Pavement
a southern gal sits down Counting Crows
"A murder of Black Crows," she says, counter clicks,
"is like 10 Thousand Maniacs released
10 Years After being locked away."
"Starlings," she continues, are Bare Naked Ladies..."
trailing off into Deep Purple thoughts,
abstractly Rolling Stones with her foot.
It's a Green Day in Lincoln Park
acres of breezy Eurhythmics
Quiet Riot rustles shrubbery,
Partridge Family scurries from bushes
a Squirrel Nut Zippers branch to branch,
dark silhouettes fill Screaming Trees,
a U-2 breaks wind overhead,
Disturbed murder takes flight.
"Well...there go the Talking Heads,"
post reverie she states, "to river Styx,"
"vessels of Grateful Dead."
She pockets counter, calls, "TOTO!"
A Scottie Super Tramps from woods,
they stroll to nearby REO Speedwagon
and tear of in a Guster of gravel
leaving me alone to wonder, "who The Who was she?!?!"
After her Rush exit stage right,
Grove quiets, becomes tranquil...YES!
Motley Crew of wildlife returns,
I continue Pursuit Of Happiness,
meditate in Deep Forest scene,
ponder Dixie Chicks
statements concerning The Byrds
like Pomes from Asia...
"Murder of Black Crows
like 10 Thousand Maniacs
out 10 Years After
being locked away; starlings
are the Bare Naked Ladies..."
"There go Talking Heads
to river Styx, vessels of
Grateful Dead on tour."
It's a Green Day in Lincoln Park
