Palm Sunday Special Edition, an in depth poetic report on the
Ballard Vale UC, 2nd Agape Open Circle Field Trip
to
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Evans Way, Beantown, MA
Sunday, March 26, 2023, afternoon,
20 pre purchased tickets on library and SNAP discount passes,
13 attendees and a beautiful day!
Lead by Agape Host and Coordinator,
Merrimack River Valley Poet, Da Butcha
and Mystic River Valley Poetess, CAT,
the group gathered at the museum main entry and bit by bit went in
leaving Da Butcha outside in sunshine waiting for Wen'D and Jane J to arrive
from parking their chariot at Simmons College, right around the corner.
As luck would have it, Da Butcha was left holding the bag
of extra tickets to distribute to whomever as the museum was SOLD OUT
for the afternoon,
lots of disappointed faces,
BVUC Agape Open Circle to the RESCUE!
For a select few
anyway.
The girls arrive and Butcha has just moments before
handed out the final two tix to two lovely ladies
as Wen'D and Jane J came into view,
praise the Lord!
More embracing and into the hallowed halls of art and culture we go!
Little notebook - journals were handed out to the attendees to jot impressions,
some did, others did not, but it's all in fun,
lots of photos were snapped and posted on various online sites.
Let us start with Da Butcha's Notes, Verbatim, from his little pink book,
random ramblings from various points in his visit,
with accompanying photos of highlights as illustration.
The lighting in some of the galleries was horrid!
As you, Dear Reader, will soon see.
Let us begin...
***
Cultured Afternoon
Suggested for notebook - journals,
Agape Food For Thoughts
to ponder as you roam the galleries:
In Words, Symbols, Sketches, Poems,
what did you see that...
Inspired, Influenced, Repulsed, Drew You In, Was Thought Provoking,
Instigated Memories,
What Emotions Were Invoked? Why?
One: Outside Looking In
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, BVUC Agape Open Circle Field Trip, sunny, mid 50's,
cool breeze, free, on street parking 'round corner, Hallelujah! Thank You, Parking God!
Party of thirteen, three cars, two poets lead the crew; too many tickets, give 'em away for a
hug, disappointment to smiles; visitors from New York, David and two pals, strange women and
men, blessing with a hug and art FREE!
Merrily into the galleries they go, soon...I will join them.

Two: Inside Poking Around
due to poor lighting and flash photography prohibited, some photos are a bit out of focus
Sarcophagus look like water troughs
lids gone, others displayed
like fine sculptures.
Chinese artifacts room
artifacts auctioned off, gallery sealed
until 2011 reno'
no longer open to public.
Boy with beautiful face
processional uniform
staff with lantern, bouquet, and wheat,
stalk held in left hand...why...?
Some officious celebration, or ritual...?
Asian Art screens, tapestries,
multi images,
everything means something...
but what...?
Intricate tapestries,
biblical, historical scenes,
characters in Norwegian garb,
Latin inscriptions,
roughly,
'Shiny, Happy People'.
Large Sargent portrait,
seems to sing,
"Mr. Jones starts up a conversation
with a dark haired flamenco dancer..."
Empty frames
infamous theft
persons of interest, suspects,
dying off;
Rembrandt will emerge
Antiques Roadshow,
"Found this rolled up in Grampy's attic
with a couple others, thought might have some value..."
Strange museum
no placards next to art works
giving information
only stands with QR Codes to scan and access files,
better to make up history, stories.
So much STUFF!
Ceiling to floor, floor to ceiling,
columns, statuary, interior courtyard garden,
fountains, Italian veranda facade,
leather wall tiles, sculpted ceiling tiles,
head spins on straining neck,
dizziness ensues
thank god there's a bench that's not art...
Sit, catch breath, rest feet, talk Grateful Dead with Dossant,
reconnect with museum buddies, Erin C and James R.
Feet hurt, back aches, hungry,
head to Gardner Museum Store of Wonders,
gather up those that didn't head back to the other side of the moon early
sit in the entry lobby close to closing time.
CAT suggests to ditch
Wen'D, Erin, James, and Jane,
and go get FOOD NOW!
Food sounds good to all,
wait for folks in the gift shop
and Bob V to return with
Tales From the Men's Room...
No repulsive art
all thought and joke provoking,
inner garden memories of
Hammond Castle, Gloucester, MA.
Positive Waves and Good Vibes abounded,
except as Wen'D jotted in notebook, using ink,
"Can't use pen." Dossant said straight faced, straightlaced, "go get a pencil."
and she did.
Three: Breaking Bread
A nearby food court mall was agreed upon
and the remaining ten attendees
headed off on a short walk for fresh air and a late lunch.
Ten Attendees left standing...barely...
Bob V photographs Da Butcha photographing Bob V,
Jeffie da Pooh eats fries and Jane J has a red wine,
Erin C, James J, Wen'D, and CAT, chit chat over sammies and lemonade,
Bob V and Dr B, verbal and facial commentary on their experience,
DaS Ginger Mann and Da Butcha laugh their buttocks off, and Da Butcha exclaims..."There's a POEM in all of this!"
* - FIN - *

and here is the poem that was found,
by Da Butcha,
perhaps another was discovered by one of the other attendees,
this is...
