back road trip prepare,

shake down cruise prelude;
attitude of Smurfie Joy,
Poet's Holiday Weekend...
vaca' excitement,
shower, shave, in readiness,
bags are packed...LET'S GO!
Antsy road trip eve,
tv til asleep on couch,
recrash in flannel,
deep sleep, doze, slight R. E. M,
too soon morning stretch time comes.

First leg, pick-up, CAT,
Second Leg, Bridge of Flowers,
stop, closed for season;
Deerfield Riv' Potholes
always open to public,
sidewalk viewing point;
snapshots of deep pots,
swirling rocks stopped action spots,
dam falls flood control
exposes ice age results,
freight train rumbles along track;
flowering shrubs, trees,
flora, sunshine shimmers leaves,
pastel petals glow;
long dead trolley line
cement crossing repurposed,

communal arboretum
gates unlocked, all welcome;
an' den...camera
battery died, change out with
fresh from carry bag.

Big City Late Lunch
Third leg, Bennington,
via state - national routes
thru forest parkland;
valley floor byways,
mountain ridge flyaways,
plateau straightaways;
white steepled churches,
sacred hilltops and hollows,
fenced red barn cow farms,
freshly tilled cornfield soil,
aromas of country life;
river twists and turns,
road traces course thru lush hills,
destination nears;
Green Mountain Forest,
pressed against metropolis,
farmland keeps at bay,
segues into downtown thrum,
find parking and pizza joint;
cobb salad, pesto,
tomato slices, cheese meat,
thin crispy crusty.
Clean restroom, means, clean kitchen; BLTG* establishment, cornhole** in Men's Room.
